2. Other than that, there's not a lot going on with the Falk fam. I'm heading back home for the weekend and I'm pretty excited. It's just me and Jack so I get to do and eat whatever I want. I know that sounds pretty weird but all of my favorite things to eat at home, Steven hates. My mom's rigatonis, Chicken Mary's Spaghetti, and capellitis. Yes, those are all different types of pasta. No I don't care. I'm drooling already.
3. Speaking of gluttony: Mardi Gras is coming up, which is the worst Eve holiday of all the Eve holidays btw. I'll be gluttoning it up all weekend in preparation though I've yet to decide what I'll be abstaining from after Mardi Gras. Steven volunteered some ideas, one of which was coffee. This was my reaction:
4. But for real. I have no mothertrucking idea what I've doing for Lent. I try to stay away from food things because I have a hard time distinguishing my true intentions (diet vs sacrfice). Do you have any spectacular ideas? What are your Lenten staples?
5.
Speaking of Lent and prayer: would you all mind praying for a special intention for my family? I'm not comfortable disclosing all the details yet but it is something that has been weighing on my heart fairly heavily for the past few months. (No it's not another silly dog thing and everyone fortunately is healthy.) 6. On a less sad note, have you been wondering about my latest thrift finds? No? Well I don't blame you. I haven't been thrifting as much lately since I realized that my closet, 2 dressers, and 3 under bed storage containers couldn't physically hold any more clothing. And that's after I had cleared out almost two garbage bags of clothes. I unfortunately missed out on the Fine Linen blog garage sale but I'm going to try to get some stuff up anyways. In fact I may make it a lil tab up top and have it be an ongoing thing. So just a heads up if you're in the market for some twice removed previously owned clothing. :)
7. Friday Funny: I have a feeling this will be my Lenten attitude.

You could always take on something rather than give something up for lent. you could choose a spiritual book to read, or take on an hour a week in adoration, something like that.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about adding in some spiritual reading for Lent. Now that I've been getting up earlier, I could really put that time to some good use. Did you sign up for a #Cathsorority Lent partner?
ReplyDelete1 closet, 2 dressers, 3 underbed storage containers!? Tell me you're kidding! lol! And I feel like I have a lot with one side of the closet and one of those tupperware tubs for out of season clothes!
Hahah I love #3!
ReplyDeleteI'll pray for your family's intention.
Have a great weekend, Katie! :)
In addition to sleep (LOL) I'm also planning on giving up reading fiction; which is really more of a discipline to use whatever reading time I find for reading spiritual stuff.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend, will be praying for your family.
Aw praying for Fergus! And your family situation!
ReplyDeleteI am giving up sweets. Even though I"m on a diet, I still eat them a lot. And they're like a treat. So It'll definitely be a sacrifice!
I'll be praying for you and your family. One of the most fruitful things I ever did for Lent was giving up makeup two years when I was in college. I can definitely struggle with vanity, and it was good for me to detach a little. By the end, I preferred the feeling of not wearing any makeup, though I still wear it most of the time for work and for Mass, but it was knowing that I didn't need it, or didn't need to depend on it, that freed me up a lot.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend!
Did you see Simcha's post the other day for NCR? It's okay if you have a side intention or even a main intention issue with the food thing...you can still do that for Lent. :)
ReplyDeleteHilarious about the coffee. that's the way I am about my Diet coke. hahaha
Yeah, I'm screwed for Lent. NO clue what do give up.
ReplyDelete#4, I am totally with you on that. plus, this Lent I'll be breastfeeding so I don't want to limit myself in that way.... my best friend and I are thinking of doing something along the lines of: praying/meditating whenever we have negative or unkind thoughts. (something we should do anyway, we know, but aren't very good at!) I like the idea because it generates positivity instead of negativity, deepens/enriches prayer life, and hopefully will instill a new good habit! all good things.
ReplyDelete#5, consider done.
#7.... seriously lol'd.
And I thought I was thick :) - Clearly, Fergus is meant to live IN YOUR HOUSE FOREVER! :). (Got it now? :))
ReplyDeleteOh, and you MUST report that he is staying with you because all social media is going away for Lent in my world and I don't want to have to wait until Easter to know he is where he belongs (blogging, twitter, facebook, all of it) - so, I think you should head straight to PetsMart, get all the things Fergus needs - and post pics of him in his new home. ASAP :).
Poor Fergus. I'm glad that there isn't the same return clause on children, because I've got a toddler that is definitely "too toddlerish" for me. Praying for your intention. Take care.
ReplyDeleteYou just need to up your crazy dog lady-ness and keep all of them :)
ReplyDeleteAnd, have you checked out Held By His Pierced Hands post on what to give up for Lent? She's got a redonk list that has to have some ideas for you :)
I love the #3...prayers from Michigan on #5 for ya too!
ReplyDeleteI already gave up everything fun since my body is hosting the baby olympics this year. So, I am doing the 40 bags in 40 days challenge. I have a side-intention of course: I need to clean out all my hoarded crap (WHY do I save empty shoe boxes??) to make room for another person living in my house!
ReplyDeleteI read the Simcha Fisher post that Michelle was talking about, and I agree that you should check it out. It may not be that you'll want to do something food related, but it has a good point.
ReplyDeleteWill definitely be praying for your special intention.
LOVE the last photo!!
Haha I do like your Friday Funny!
ReplyDeleteMy standard response to the suggestion of giving up coffee for Lent is that it is not my place to impose penance on other people.
ReplyDeleteI am very fond of some benign computer games (think Free Cell!) and I give up those for Lent every year. A small pleasure denied, and more free time for prayer and other important things.
