7 Quick Takes #67

--- 1 ---
I've spent the week away from the computer and spending time with family so forgive me for my lackluster posting/commenting this week. I can't wait to catch up on everyone's post next week after the business of the holidays is over. So now on to the recap of my busy family week.

Trash ladies
Saturday I got my Christmas spirit on by helping to pack 5000 food boxes for the Salvation Army. My friend Allison has been helping for the past 15 years and she asked some of her fellow med students to join. We worked from 9:00-2:00 picking up trash, which my sound easy but let me assure you, my friends, it was not. I was sweating my ass off, my whole body was sore, and I was sucking some serious wind. Who knew that 5000 boxes of food could create so much trash! (We filled 2 freaking dumpsters!)

Jack loves his aunt Ashley
Then Sunday night my sister came up for our thriftapalooza. We also hit a new high point low but digging through my neighbors trash. Yup, you read that correctly. I got some BEAUTIFUL ornaments that this lady's family was just throwing away. She must have love them so much because they were meticulously wrapped in tissue paper and stacked in boxes. I felt a lil bad at first but I'm getting over it now knowing that I'll still be displaying her precious ornaments and they won't be in some landfill. Anywho, we went a lil crazy at the real thrift stores and I have a whole post coming just to share with you my fantastic finds but here's a lil preview.

Ros hiding, Ferg instigating.
Fergus had a big week too. He met my friend Hilary's dog, Rosalyn. Unfortunately that didn't go as well as we had hoped. Fergus and Jack were too excited to see her and she was more than intimidated by 2 gigantic dogs towering over her. Plus, in between all the thrifting we had to work around 2 different vet appointments for Fergus. He was neutered on Monday and Tuesday had to go back because he licked his wound open throughout the night. You know what that means: cone of shame!

After my sister left Tuesday, I drove home Wednesday morning to get our Christmas baking on. We baked from 9:30am until 9:30pm. Vom, right? Well we have a ton of sweets and a diagnosis of Type II Diabetes to show for our work at least. So if you're blood sugar has been running in the pre-diabetes range and you want to kick it in to full force, you know where to go.

Now I'm back home with my boys (Jack, Fergus, and Steven) and need to finish up the last little touches for Christmas. We have a few more gifts to wrap and I need to pick up some beer for the family parties, it's our yearly Christmas offering.

Friday Funny: If these dresses were denim and the girls had permed bowl cuts this could be my sister and I in the early 90's.

  1. "back home with my boys (Jack, Fergus, and Steven)"....hmmm ;).

Can I send you $100, my sizes, and send you thrifting for me? I have zero patience which is why thrifting works out badly for me...

I will be starting my own Type II Diabetes table this weekend - so excited to do it too as I finally found an awesome gluten-free baking mix that works just as well as regular ol' wheat flour!

  7. That picture is awesome! I know you've told us a lot, but I really think I need you to teach me how to thrift. But I think that I really mean I want YOU to find me awesome deals. I hate shopping!
